SIG Event: 2024 Multicultural/Cross-cultural Dance & Performance Event: Unity in Motion

12:30 – 1:45 pm in the Central Quad – Dance performances by:

  • CSULB K-Pop Dance Cover Group
  • A traditional Oneida Smoke Dance performed by Dr. Thomas “TJ” Reed
  • Choctaw Snake Dance performed by the CSULB American Indian Student Council
  • CSULB Grupo Folklorico Mexica will be in attendance to recruit for their club!

Snacks & drinks during the dance showcase will be provided while they last!

2:00 – 3:00 pm in PSY-150 – A Talk with Ph.D. Candidate Minu Park

Ph.D. Candidate Minu Park will be giving a talk “Dancing Grandmothers: Random Dance as Decolonial Praxis in South Korea.” “Dancing Grandmothers is a response to modern Korean history and culture and an attempt to counter the stiffening of bodies under public shaming.” Park’s talk will explore how “spontaneous dance performance revives the connection with the physical unconscious by decolonizing cognitive and embodied knowledge.”

Park specializes in performance studies with a focus on decoloniality in performance and dance through a transnational, global Asias perspective. Their work engages the fields of trauma, affect, gender, and ethnic studies with particular focus on Korean shamanism and contemporary dance as embodied practice. Park is a Ph.D.Candidate in the Dance and Theater Joint Doctoral Program with the University of California, Irvine and the University of California, San Diego.
