Strangers I know

March 24, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Clorinda Donato Center for Global Romance Languages and Translation Studies is pleased to invite you to a face-to-face book presentation of Strangers I Know (2022; La straniera, 2019), written by Claudia Durastanti and translated by Elizabeth Harris. Finalist for the 2019 Strega Prize, Italy’s most prestigious literary award, Strangers I Know is a transatlantic story of deaf culture and diaspora that explores the themes of belonging, family, communication, cultural intimacies, and migration.

CSULB is proud to feature its own program in American Sign Language Linguistics and Deaf Cultures (ASLD). Under the direction of Professor Katy Calen, ASLD students will provide sign language interpreting services during the presentations.

The event will take place on Thursday, March 24th, from 4 to 6 pm in the Anatol Center. Signed copies of Strangers I Know will be available.
