Dr. Gabe Jones

Gabe Jones has taught at the college level for over 25 years at schools including Northwestern University, San Diego State University, UC San Diego, and UCLA, where he currently also teaches in the Department of Communication. He previously served as Dean of Academic Affairs at The Art Institute of California in Hollywood and as National Director of Academics for SAE Institute, a group of creative media colleges across the U.S.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Philosophy and a master’s degree in English, both from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences and Comparative Education from UCLA. His research interests focus on the intersections of power, knowledge, information, and communication – what constitutes knowledge, who gets to determine what counts as knowledge (and how and why), who has access to it, what channels enable or disable that access (and how they in turn influence understanding), and how each of those dimensions in turn shape our sense of self, our world, and our connections to others.
