JPR Day 2020 Cancelled Due to COVID-19
Journalism & Public Relations Day (JPR Day) is the signature event of the Department of Journalism & Public Relations, taking place annually each spring semester for decades. This year, due to the changes in our on-campus experience brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, JPR Day has been cancelled.
However, with a great deal of creativity and with our spirits held high, some key elements of JPR Day have continued. On April 22nd, the annual Career Mentoring and Networking Fair took place online, using Zoom video meetings between our students and industry professionals from organizations including Experian, Fox, Los Angeles Times, Golin, EdSource and Univision with positive reviews from all who participated. The following week, the annual tradition of awarding JPR Scholarships continued with the announcement of over $10,000 in scholarships awarded to 10 distinguished JPR students. Finally, in the first week of May, the JPR Student Awards were announced, continuing a long-standing tradition of honoring standout students across all aspects of our program.
The Department of Journalism & Public Relations is committed to providing a complete and diverse program of activities despite being physically distant. We are proud of our students and their perseverance in this unprecedented time, and mostly, we look forward to bringing JPR Day back to you, face to face, in 2021.
