As environmental issues become central in democratic societies, understanding our moral relationship to the environment has never been more important. Environmental ethics concerns our moral relationship to, and the value and moral status of, the environment. Among the questions we will ask ourselves are, What are our moral obligations to other species? How should human beings relate to, and interact with, the natural world? and Do we owe anything to future generations, with respect to the environment? This course will explore these questions by means of traditional ethical theory and contemporary arguments.
