A Conversation with Conchi Leon

Conchi León is an internationally recognized playwright, director, journalist, and community activist. She is the founder of the Municipal Theatre Company in Acapulco and director of Saas Tun Teatro. Conchi León has written more than sixty plays; her work is included in the Mexican Educational Theater Anthology, and many of her plays have been translated internationally. A key element of her theater is her way of weaving storytelling with the testimonials of Indigenous women in Yucatán denouncing violence against women. As an activist, she has also used theater to work with mentally challenged children, homeless children, minor offenders, and federal prisoners. Her contributions in this area have been honored by The Human Rights Commission in Yucatán.
