Elías Padilla is an Anthropologist (University of Chile) with an MA in Sociology (Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium) and a doctorate in Studies of Memory and Human Rights at the Universidad de la Plata, Argentina. 

Elías Padilla has been a member of the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Human Rights since 2020, a representative in the Human Rights Department of the Federation of Professional Associations, and has led the Human Rights Commission of the Chilean Anthropology Association. In addition, he was President of the Chilean Section of Amnesty International between 1998-1999. He is a founding member of the UNESCO Harald Edelstam Chair in Human Rights Education. He has been in charge of the Area of ​​Studies and Publications of the Social Aid Foundation of the Christian Churches (FASIC) in Santiago.  

Padilla was also a member of the Forensic Anthropology Group, GAF, which has carried out various expert reports to identify cases of disappeared detainees in Chile. Furthermore, he was the Director of the Center for the Study of Memory and Human Rights at the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (2007-2010) and a member of the UAHC Human Rights Observatory since 2012. In addition, he is a founding member of the Park for Peace, Villa Grimaldi, and the Ethics Commission Against Torture. Finally, he is also in charge of the Research Team of the Association of Memory and Human Rights Iran 3037 (Ex Venda Sexy), a torture center during the military dictatorship.
